ADHD Therapist for Women in Charlotte, NC
Neurodivergent-affirming telehealth therapy for women in Charlotte and across North Carolina
If you are looking for ADHD therapy for women in Charlotte, NC, this is the center of my practice. I’m Kristen McClure, MSW, LCSW, a Charlotte-based therapist with more than 30 years of experience and a long-standing specialization in ADHD in women. I work by telehealth with adult women across North Carolina, including women who are newly diagnosed, late diagnosed, high masking, burned out, or still trying to understand whether ADHD fits.
Online ADHD Therapy for Women in Charlotte, NC
Many women with ADHD in Charlotte come to therapy after years of compensating for attention, organization, emotional regulation, or working-memory demands while also managing work, relationships, family responsibilities, and daily logistics. The amount of effort it takes to keep up is often much less visible than the outcome.
My work is not about fixing you. ADHD is not a character flaw or a productivity problem. It's a different neurological profile — one that comes with real strengths and real challenges. Therapy with me is about understanding your brain, building tools that work for your life, and letting go of the shame that's been accumulating since childhood.
Women with ADHD are consistently underdiagnosed, misdiagnosed, and underserved. That's the gap I work in. My practice is especially focused on women whose ADHD has been less visible: women diagnosed later in life, women who have spent years masking or overcompensating, and women whose difficulties show up as anxiety, overwhelm, burnout, emotional intensity, or the constant effort of holding everything together.
Why Telehealth Works for ADHD (Especially for Busy Women in Charlotte)
Driving across Charlotte for a therapy appointment — navigating traffic on I-77 or I-485, finding parking, getting there on time — is a legitimate barrier for women with ADHD. Telehealth removes it.
Sessions happen from a private space that works for you, without the commute, parking, waiting room, or extra transition time of an office visit. For some women with ADHD, reducing that logistical and sensory load makes therapy easier to attend consistently.
I am based in Charlotte and licensed to provide virtual therapy in both North Carolina and South Carolina. For Charlotte clients, sessions are online while you are physically located in North Carolina. You can also learn more about ADHD therapy for women across North Carolina.
ADHD Therapy for Women: What I Work With
My practice focuses on women with ADHD and neurodivergent women, including women who are still trying to understand whether ADHD fits their experience. Common areas we work on include:
- ADHD — including late diagnosis, inattentive ADHD, masking, executive-function demands, and overwhelm
- Rejection sensitivity and emotional regulation — especially when criticism, exclusion, or misunderstanding has shaped how you respond to relationships and feedback
- Anxiety — including anxiety that develops around repeated mistakes, missed expectations, social judgment, or the effort of trying to keep up
- OCD — including OCD that co-occurs with ADHD and situations where the two need to be understood separately
- Depression and burnout — including exhaustion, reduced capacity, and the emotional impact of prolonged overcompensation
- Trauma and shame — including the effects of repeated correction, criticism, misunderstanding, or feeling chronically out of step
- ADHD and hormonal transitions — including menstrual-cycle changes, possible PMDD, postpartum changes, perimenopause, and menopause
Neurodivergent-Affirming ADHD Therapy in Charlotte, NC
My work is neurodivergent-affirming. We look at how ADHD actually affects your attention, emotions, relationships, energy, sensory needs, and capacity, then build supports that fit your life rather than asking you to perform neurotypicality more convincingly.

My approach is neurodivergent-affirming and practical. We look at what is making daily life harder, what is costing too much energy, and what supports or accommodations could make things more workable.
I have more than 30 years of clinical experience, and ADHD in women has been a central part of my work for more than a decade. I am a member of APSARD, CHADD, ADDA, and the ADHD Coaches Organization.
What Makes My ADHD Therapy Practice Different
ADHD in women is not an add-on to a general therapy practice for me. I pay attention to how ADHD intersects with anxiety, shame, relationships, work, sleep, hormones, motherhood, menopause, and the hidden cost of appearing functional. I am interested not only in whether you can get something done, but in how much effort it takes and what that effort is costing you.
Therapy may include practical tools and accommodations, but we also look at the expectations, environments, communication patterns, and repeated experiences of criticism or misunderstanding that keep making life harder. Having time does not mean having capacity. A plan that ignores capacity, sensory load, or recovery is usually not a useful plan.
