By Kristen McClure, MSW, LCSW | ADHD Coaching for Women
You don't always need therapy. Sometimes what you need is someone to help you figure out how to function — how to build systems that actually work, navigate a specific challenge, or move forward when you're stuck. That's where ADHD coaching comes in.
ADHD Coaching for Women
I offer coaching specifically for women with ADHD who are looking for practical, action-oriented support. Coaching is distinct from therapy — it's focused on the present and future, on building skills and strategies, rather than processing the past or working through deeper psychological patterns.
Therapy vs. Coaching — What's the Difference?
| Therapy | Coaching |
|---|---|
| Addresses emotional, psychological, and relational patterns | Focuses on practical skills, strategies, and goals |
| Often explores past experiences and how they shape the present | Future-focused and action-oriented |
| Best for trauma, depression, anxiety, burnout, shame | Best for organization, productivity, career, life transitions |
| Regulated by state licensing boards | Not regulated — expertise varies widely |
Many women with ADHD benefit from both — therapy to address the deeper emotional layer and coaching for day-to-day functioning. Some need one more than the other. We can talk through what makes sense for you.
What ADHD Coaching With Me Covers
- Building routines and systems that fit your ADHD brain
- Tackling task paralysis and getting unstuck
- Managing time and transitions
- Career navigation — ADHD in the workplace, disclosure decisions, advocating for accommodations
- Navigating relationships with better communication and boundaries
- Working with your ADHD strengths rather than against them
Who Coaching Is For
Coaching may be a good fit if you:
- Have your mental health reasonably stable and are looking for practical ADHD strategies
- Want support with a specific area — career, organization, relationships, life transitions
- Are not currently in crisis and don't have active trauma or significant mental health concerns
- Want a more directive, goal-oriented approach than traditional therapy
If you're dealing with significant depression, trauma, anxiety, or burnout, therapy is likely a better starting point. We can always discuss what makes the most sense for where you are.
Frequently Asked Questions
No — coaching is not a clinical service and is not covered by insurance. It is a private-pay service.
In some cases, yes — though typically not simultaneously in the same sessions. We'd discuss what makes the most sense for your situation.
No. Many women I work with are in the process of seeking a diagnosis or strongly suspect ADHD but haven't been formally evaluated. Coaching doesn't require a diagnosis.
All sessions are online via secure video. Unlike therapy, coaching is not limited by state licensing, so I can work with women anywhere — not just in North Carolina and South Carolina.
