My Therapy Practice

My therapy office is a child friendly place. You will often find paint on the walls and toys strewn around the waiting room. I want my clients to feel comfortable enough to put their feet up on the furniture and not worry if their child spills a drink. If you are a new mom seeking treatment, you are welcome to bring your infant with you if you can not find a babysitter. If you have other children you must bring with you to therapy they are very welcome. Click here to contact me

Aside from therapy I also provide clinical supervision for students who are provisionally licensed. Please click here for more information about that process Click here to learn about supervision.

Assessment/Treatment Planning

The first appointment is for an assessment. At this appointment, you should be prepared to answer questions about you or your child's extended family, medical history, academic performance, social issues, support systems, and strengths. I will also ask you how you would like therapy to proceed and what issues you want to work on.

When it comes to therapy, some people like a lot of structure and some people do not. I will work with you to set up a treatment plan that is a good fit for you. You should also feel free to ask me any questions you may have and you may even want to prepare some questions before attending the meeting.

If you have decided beforehand that you will be seeing me as your primary therapist, feel free to download and complete the initial forms. This will save us a lot of time. If you have not yet selected a therapist, then please take advantage of my free half hour consultation session. If you would like, I can provide you with the names of some other therapists, psychologists or doctors that you might want to interview as well.

If you decide that I will be your primary therapist, I will first meet with you or your child for four sessions so we can become acquainted. Next, we will get together and create a treatment plan. We will figure out together how we need to proceed. For example, we may decide it is important to work together in family sessions, or we may instead decide that individual sessions would be more appropriate and productive. We will measure our progress toward our goals based upon the treatment plan we create. We always have the option of revisiting our plan and revising it as necessary. Therapy should not be mysterious. I want to demystify it for you. If you have any questions for me, please do not hesitate to ask. If you ever ask me a question and I do not know the answer, I will tell you I do not know and then help you to find the answer.

Payment

I now accept credit cards! I believe clients should not file with insurance if at all possible because of the danger of being diagnosed with a pr existing condition. This may make it hard for you to get health coverage later. Also, when you utilize insurance there is a danger that people will see your records when you do not want them too!!

My fees range from 70 dollars to 155 dollars, depending on the kind of therapy and the length of time of our sessions. If you live in the United States, I can arrange therapy consultations. If you live in NC but are either to sick to come to my office or too far, I can arrange for phone or skype therapy.

Please feel free to contact me via email at kristmcclur@aol.com. I currently accept NC Medicaid, and Blue Cross Blue Shield. If you have other insurance, however, you can often file on your own as long as you get a receipt. If you have out of network coverage with Cigna or United Healthcare I will do the billing for you.

You can also just pay out of your pocket. Some insurance companies will reimburse you a good portion of your cost if you use an out of network provider. This means you may only end up paying only slightly more than your co-pay. Also, your sessions may be tax deductible.

There are several reasons I do not accept other types insurance. It is very time consuming to deal with insurance companies. Not only do these companies offer very low reimbursement rates, but the time I would need to spend filing claims and completing the necessary paperwork is time I would prefer to spend in therapy with you and your family. Also, if a claim is filed, the insurance companies will then have access to your personal medical information, including your diagnosis and all treatment information. This is information you may wish to keep private.

Please call your insurance company before you come to see me and ask them if you have out-of-network coverage. Also be sure to ask for the amount of your deductible, so you know how much therapy will cost you.
