Jenifer

by Jenifer
(Texas)

My daughter is 6 years old and for the past 6 months has been habitually alternating and pressing her finger tips against her thumbs on both hands. She does this when she is anxious, and it is starting to get in the way of her doing her school work. (Since she cannot hold a pencil or type on a comuter when she is doing this.) She tells me that she can't stop doing it and it sounds very much like compulsive behavior to comfort or calm herself. She is not autistic, very bright, but very nervous at times. I have had anxiety most of my life that I now treat with medication. Could this be anxiety, or does this border on OCD? I am not sure what to do to help her, as she has been very distressed about it and upset because she cannot stop.
