Follow-up NEW
by: Jenifer

I wanted to report in and let everyone know that this behavior has stopped. I called the school counselor and she suggested I get a stress ball that she could squeeze when she started doing it. Apparently it worked to release the stress, or stopped because she was embarrased to have the ball at school. Either way, I think she is very sensitive to stress and this is just one way that it worked it's way out physically.

Thanks for your input!

Just my thought! NEW
by: Renee

My son had 3 pacifiers, one to suck and the other 2 for both hands to squeeze between his fingers. He had always done this up until kindergarten, when they wouldn't let him. Then he began to squeeze his fingers, like your daughter. He also had 3 small blankets and a pooh bear, to comfort him in his little world. If your daughter has just started with this ritual 6 months ago, I would look into the anxiety. Did anything change 6 months ago? Even the most minor of instances can cause havoc in a child who is already sensitive to stress. Children can pick up on anxiety and feed off of it. If it is getting in the way of her doing everyday things,
I would call her doctor for advice.
Take Care, Renee
