22 month afraid of new noises
My son is 22 months old. He is terrified of my friends screaming baby, the baby screams my son breaks down. Loud noises at the county fair terrify. He is antisocial around other children younger or older. At home he is perfect, happy and content. At stores he is fine. Parks, county fairs, cookouts places where there are lots of noises activities and people he is clingy and cries inconsolably. This happens when mom and dad are with him. His speech is still limited, mama, dada, baby, ball, duck, etc. I see other children his age playing with other kids; noises don't faze them at all. Is this normal for my son? We try to console my son when is cries, sometime it works, sometime is does not. I don't know if he just extra sensitive, only child and all or what?
HI.
I’m not sure where you are located but I don’t know the local resources in your area. Sensory integration disorder may be something you need to investigate.
Here is a website that discusses it http://www.comeunity.com/disability/sensory_integration/index.html. Many of the children I work with have problems with loud noises.
The behaviors you describe could mean nothing or could mean something. The fact that you are concerned about your son that may be a sign that something is wrong. Early detection of problems can often lead to prevention of more serious issues. Being antisocial could just mean that he is shy , however, it may also be an early sign of autism. I think it would be a good idea to take him to see someone who is a specialist in early development.
Finally it makes sense to me to get his hearing and ears checked.
Good Luck!
